Church Introduction
-
We realize that we are not the only church in Muskegon, MI. We acknowledge and
extend good will to all of our sister churches that preach the Gospel of
Christ.
-
We are
an interdenominational community church with a family emphasis, but devoted
to a Christian ministry for all ages and walks of life.
-
We
seek to preach and teach an enlightening evangelical Word which ultimately
speaks for itself. We try not to be legalistic or judgmental in spirit.
-
We
believe that worship and learning should not be boring. Therefore, we seek
to balance form and order with innovation and spontaneity. One should go
home refreshed and expanded.
-
We
love and appreciate God-exalting sacred music, and seek to offer such. We
offer variety in our music ministry, attempting to balance the traditional
with contemporary.
-
We
attempt to offer warm and friendly fellowship, without being overbearing.
-
From
our very inception, our byword has been "Building on Love and
Faith" in "Love" we wish to be
cooperative and non-competitive in our spirit toward the sister churches of
our community, commending all who sincerely represent Jesus Christ, and
extending a "God Speed" to all who preach His Gospel. With "faith"
in God, we share the vision of a learning center which offers multiple
ministries to children, youth, and adults of the Greater Muskegon area. We
enjoy the "knitting together" of deep Christian
fellowship.
Church History
The
vision was born on Sunday, October 3, 1982, as approximately 165 people from
all walks of life and various backgrounds met for an "Agape Love
Feast" at Johnson Hall in Muskegon, MI, to explore the possibilities
of organizing an interdenominational church call NORTHSIDE BIBLE
CHURCH .
From
the onset, we have shared a vision of "a home of our own"
and have tirelessly worked toward the fulfillment of that vision. On Sunday,
August 7, 1983, after considering the recommendation of our Elders Board,
the congregation voted to purchase 10 acres of beautiful property on
Whitehall Road, bordering North Muskegon.
During
the summer of 1986, a number of men, women and children felled trees,
removed stumps, and cleared the front five acres of the property. It proved
to be a beautiful setting for a new "Worship Center".
On
Tuesday, January 24, 1987, a Planning & Building Committee was
organized. The work of the committee was long, highly organized, and very
thorough. We wanted to begin with a highly efficient and attractive, but not
extravagant, multi-purpose facility which would accommodate our existing
ministries, yet allow for future growth and expansion.
In the
spring of 1987, with the consulting services of Independent Bible Mission of
Grand Rapids, MI, we arrived upon the plan appropriate to our congregation.
On the
Sunday of July 26. 1987, our excited congregation broke ground, and the life
of our congregation hasn't been the same since. We have had phenomenal
responses from both men and women for volunteer labor. "The people had
a mind to work", not for few days, not for few weeks, but for 8-11
months! The new Worship Center was joyfully occupied for the first time on
Sunday. December 20, 1987. The memorable day of Worship Center Dedication
was Sunday, June 26, 1988. The realization of a dream is the greatest of
benedictions!
From
